When did your love of vintage begin?

I was initially inspired by a vintage seller based in San Francisco. I was attracted to the creative approach to getting dressed as well as the act of recycling vs. creating waste.

When did you start your shop? What gave you the drive to go for it?

In 2015 I was about to quit before I even began. I had spent months sourcing my first collection, ordering all the shipping and branding materials, and putting together my first photo shoot, but before I was officially going to launch I completely second guessed myself and was contemplating ways to liquidate. I left all my finds in a boutique on consignment and left for a month-long road trip to Alaska. I was happily surprised when nearly every piece had sold by the time I returned home, which gave me the confidence I needed to keep going. Goes to show that mindset can be your greatest adversary!

How would you describe Shop Archeo’s vibe?

I’d describe the vibe as classic, iconic, and overall aesthetically pleasing + consistent.

How do you stay true to yourself while building a brand that reflects your individual style?

I believe we’re always evolving. Looking back, I’ve gone through so much growth since I first started and sometimes I cringe at the pieces I chose and content I put out. But at the end of the day, I know I’m a work in progress and I always welcome new ideas, concepts and practices into my life with an open heart.

Your pieces have a very similar, unique aesthetic. What do you look for when you’re sourcing vintage pieces and how do you balance buying what will fit your brand vs. what you think will sell?

This has been such a trial and error process over the years. When you dedicate your time and energy to something relentlessly, you miraculously become the master of your own craft. Weeding out the unnecessary purchases becomes second nature.

Where do you love to shop for vintage finds?

I frequent all the local vintage shops and flea markets like I’m on a conveyor belt. I also do a road trip up the coast once a month for a heftier haul. I usually stop in small, unassuming farming towns, that's where I find most of my really good gems.

What are some challenges you’ve experienced while running your own business?

I get into creative ruts where I don’t have the energy to push out creative content. I came to the realization that I have to be more forgiving of myself, especially since I juggle my vintage shop with a full time gig and overextending myself only hurts my work. If quarantine has taught me anything, it’s that constant growth isn't everything. You need to find appreciation in the slow moments and inbetweens.

What’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to someone looking to open their own vintage business?

Anyone that wants to open their own vintage business needs to keep moving with the motions and trust their instincts. Don’t give up like I almost did.

Where do you find inspiration? How do you stay motivated?

I’m blessed with a batch of insanely creative and beautiful friends. I always have them in mind while sourcing product. I also love a good desert or river trip to unplug from the constant scrolling. I like scheming up the perfect fit for every activity—one that’s comfortable and effortless, yet still striking. An outfit that gives you the confidence to be the best version of yourself and, most importantly, one that outlives the trends. Also seeing the way customers light up in something that motivates me every damn day.

Make sure you shop Shop Archeo’s Virtual Pop-Up, starting today at 10am. Angelina’s collection will only be online until the following pop-up, and since each piece is one-of-a-kind, once it’s gone — it’s gone. You can also follow Shop Archeo on Instagram and shop her website.
